2 Tips for Making the Interior Pictures in Your Home's Real Estate Listing Stand Out

Cody Day

If you are getting ready to sell your house, you may have come to the point in the process where you are preparing your listing. Because you do not only want a textual listing that can get lost in the myriad of others, you want to make sure that you take lots of pictures.

However, since these pictures are often the first things that buyers notice when searching for a house to buy, you want to make sure that they stand out. Below are a couple of things to keep in mind while you are photographing the rooms inside your house.

1.  Take Full Advantage of the Natural Light in Each Room

One tip that will help you take pictures of your house's interior rooms in preparation to sell is that you should take full advantage of the natural light in each room. While lamps and other lighting fixtures will enable visibility of the rooms, natural light fills them with a warm and airy feel that can make them look more inviting.

A couple of days before you plan on taking the pictures, make note of when sunlight pours in through the windows of each room. Then, at the times you have specified, go around and take the pictures so that each one has the maximum amount of natural light.

2.  Make the Rooms More Inviting by Leaving Furniture in Them

Another thing that will help make the pictures of the rooms in your house more appealing is leaving furniture in them for the pictures. If you only take photos of bare rooms, they will have a cold, empty feel to them. It can also make it more difficult for the potential buyer to gauge the sizes of the rooms.

In each room, clear out any clutter and broken-down items, and leave the best pieces of furniture for the photos. If you do not feel that your furniture is photogenic, speak with your real estate agent to see about obtaining staging pieces for use in the pictures.

Even before potential buyers read the listing for your house, they will see the pictures that will serve as a first impression. Because of this, you want to make sure that the rooms you photograph are flooded with natural light and give off a cozy ambiance by including furniture in the pictures. For more tips on taking photographs of your house as well as putting together an eye-catching listing, speak with a real estate agent.
