Steps To Improve Your Home's Curb Appeal When Selling

Cody Day

During your initial meeting with a real estate agent, they will take a close look at your home. The purpose of this is to recommend steps to take to increase the likelihood of finding a buyer who is willing to pay you the price you are asking for the home. One way to improve your home's looks is by working on improving your home's curb appeal. Here are several steps you can take that might help you achieve this goal.

Clean Up the Yard

The first thing to start with is cleaning up the yard. Do you have weeds growing in specific areas? Does your grass need some fertilizer or mowing? Is there junk in your yard? Spending some time cleaning up your yard can make a significant difference in your home's curb appeal.

Add Some Flowers

Simple is almost always better for a yard, and small touches can improve your front yard's looks. One simple idea is to plant some flowers in front of your home or place a few potted plants by your front door. You don't need a lot of flowers, but adding a few can make a difference.

Pressure Wash All the Areas

Next, you might want to consider pressure washing the areas in your front yard. For example, does your driveway look dirty? Pressure washing it can make it look much cleaner. You can also pressure wash all your sidewalks and your porch. Many people also pressure wash their home's exterior surfaces, such as brick or siding.

Repaint the Front Door and Shutters

If your front door does not look the best, you could consider painting it. Before painting it, ask your real estate agent what color to choose. It does not have to be a color you like. Instead, it should be a color that will attract buyers to your home. When painting your front door, you can also paint your shutters if you have any at your house.

Place Numbers on the Home

Does your house have the address numbers on it? If not, this is a great touch to add. You can purchase numbers from a hardware store to place on your home. You can put them above your front door, or you can find a different location. While doing this, you might also want to replace the numbers on your mailbox to make them look newer.

If you have questions about improving your home's curb appeal, ask a real estate agent for advice.
